There is a Memory Lane

This a repeat of an earlier pome posted here at AD. I made an attempt to post it in a form other than paragraph, but was unsuccessful.

There is a Memory Lane

Can one take a trip down Memory Lane?

Does that illusory road really exist?

Why yes,

It exists in certain places

where we have been.

some structures still stand,

others are gone, either wiped away or shuttered.

At the south end of a busy street,

a filling station which once catered to Model T's

sits to direct tourists.

Up the street. George and Jane

point the way to a doctor's office.

Ruh-roh!

I thought Elroy and Judy's doctor

would be in modern digs.

The old theater still stands

its grand marquee restored to its former glory.

Want to see A-Nut?

If only she didn't share the bill

with Godzilla vs. the Thing.

Once the glittering metal awnings

lined the street called State.

But now?

The starbursts are just metal skeletons

and forgotten wood.

They still sell Chevys

on the north side of town

and used cars

out of the old farmer's home.

Here and there are all of the things

we remember from days gone by.

Yes Virginia, there is a Memory Lane.

The story of small-town America, bypassed by the Interstate, and plundered by Walmart.

But the tourist industry thrives and persuades tourists to seek out haunts like this… the ghosts of America past.

Ron

I've come to the conclusion that the problem may be a result of having a guest or trial membership. This is one question that should be raised in the Roundtable and solved.

There is a Memory Lane in each of us, and is so precious that we would go back there from time to time, even in our dreams.

As for the line breaks and format:

If you want to have line breaks, make sure to disable the den's "toolbar/editor" before you paste your poem to the den.

You can still correct this poem now by pressing "Shift" and the "Enter" keys on the place where you need to put a line break. For double line breaks just press "Shift" and "Enter" twice.

Hope this helps.

Sandie

P.S. I've never used the den's "Toolbar/editor". I have this disable all the time, and my poems and stories are appearing fine.
