Let's Color Awhile

Purity I'd color white, and
peace I'd color green.
Eternity would have a golden hue
if it could e'er be seen.
Happiness could never be blue,
but a warmer shade, instead;
but when it's time to color forgiveness,
it must be colored red.
Forgiveness ran down Jesus' brow
from 'neath His thorny crown, and
from His heart of only love,
forgiveness trickled down.
The hands that in compassion had
healed the blind and lame
found nails driven through their flesh, and
the ankles just the same.
But forgiveness and compassion still
filled the voice that cried:
"O Father, please forgive them,"
when He was crucified.
Forgive the hands that laid the stripes, and
drove the nails, sore.
Forgive the ones who spat on me, and
laughed, and cursed, and swore.
Forgiveness ran down red that day,
'tis a miracle, you know,
that it took my crimson sins away, and
turned them white as snow.
Now the golden hue of eternity
illuminates ahead, and
I'll walk in white, all because
forgiveness ran down red.
A picture, now, we have to color,
of our blessed Savior's love:
a model from the Father's Son,
directly from above.
We cannot color purity,
nor peace, nor time ahead --
till we color his forgiveness,
which must be colored red.
