Fool's Voyage

Only a fool would put out
into this surreal calm,
for the seasoned sailor knows
the timeless energy of the sea has
been sucked into the approaching storm.

Soon, the hand of fate will
toss the dice in
violent clattering across the void,
wind and wave in
chilling power, crashing,
smashing
everything it its path.

Cloud upon cloud, piling,
piling, higher and higher,
lightning strobes
exposing the intent of
nature's wrath.

Soon, the hand of fate will
toss the dice in
violent clattering across the void,
wind and wave in
chilling power, crashing,
smashing
everything it its path.

Fools bob in their tiny craft,
putting, putting
across the bay.  Their
folly screams through
shoreline trees.

Soon, the hand of fate will
toss the dice in
violent clattering across the void,
wind and wave in
chilling power, crashing,
smashing
everything it its path.

riding the sea can certainly be a gamble ...

your poem captures the turbulence of being set afloat on the hand of fate ...

You captured the age old theme of fools and the sea perfectly. The use of repetition brilliantly builds the tension of unmeant destruction. Enjoyed.

Dallas,

Undone by the power of the Storm in your words - agree with Peter. Are you sure you aren't related to Poseidon? WOW. My new favorite of yours - you KNOW a StormSpinner's gotta love this one. And I do. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

My favorite line: lightning strobes/exposing the intent/of nature's wrath. YES!!!!!!

Oh man, that's great stuff Dallas. Beautiful description of wind, weather and sea. You really have a knack for that. Must have the bloodlines of Poseidon! Take care.
