In My Skin © 1986
Judging from where I’ve been,
I don’t think you want to be in my skin.
I am the one who shuffles down the street.
Carrying a weary soul on blistered feet.
I argue with the voices I hear in my mind,
as people pass and pretend they are blind.
They think that I’m oblivious to my pain,
yet I know that I’m completely insane.
I am the one who is abused.
I pride myself that only my body is bruised.
I try to tell you to stop, but all my hope is lost.
But tonight was different from any other night,
you finally broke my spirit and won your fight.
I am the one that was born the wrong sex.
Trying to learn the right behavior makes my life complex.
Living life this way seems to be my fate.
I am a prime example that sometimes Nature makes a mistake.
I am the cold and heartless that no one wants to see.
I don’t give a shit about anyone but me.
I whisper no prayers before I go to bed,
because I know inside I’m already dead.
Judging from where I’ve been,
I don’t think you want to be in my skin.
