Cloak of Darkness

A thunderstorm blew through around midnight on Sunday. I captured this lightning strike but what really caught my eye were the clouds that were invisible in the darkness.

A cloak of darkness

Sometimes conceals

That which light

To us reveals

 

Luminous flash

Ominous cloud

Thunderous voice

That speaks aloud

 

Pelting raindrops

Pierce the night

Sky fluoresces

Brilliant white

 

Storm pot boiling

A blackened stew

Treetops whistle

Wind blows through

 

I sometimes wonder

If it’s best to know

What the cloak of darkness

Declines to show

 

Or let the winds of fate

Invoke their plan

To plot the course

Of a restless man

Wow! What an eerie picture....those clouds are ominous looking! Glad it was just a thunder storm..and not something more terrifying....looks like those clouds are hiding evil monsters....

Before there were electric lights and even before campfires, there was lightning to reveal in stark contrast, the night. Your words have captured the feeling remarkably well.

awesome poem and awesome pic! must have been asleep for that one the other night; but last night at 3AM i did catch the moon, which was unbelievable, wan and gigantic like an eggshell dangling in the NW sky. amazing.

It is a question that applies to so many experiences in life and I don't think that there is a simple answer. "Do I want to know?" and "What is it that I want to know?", these are two of my favorite questions... Interesting, Patrick!

Very nice poem and picture, Patrick. I'm trying to remember but do not remember a storm on Sunday so it must have been over the desert.
