An exercise in humility.

Which came first

The chicken or eggs

A very simple question

That humanity begs

The answer’s deceptive

In fact it’s unknown

Unless it so happens

That you are a clone

Then all bets are off

You’re a mirror of your past

A chip off the block

That forever will last

Me, I’m an omelet

The chicken came first

I am the offspring

Of a hen that did burst

Fast forward a lifetime

Never passed on my genes

Will the world take notice

Not likely it seems

The world’s for the living

That’s the way it should be

It has no obligation

To preserve memories of me

DAN ... WELL SAID!

IF THERE WERE NO CHICKEN,
THEN THERE COULD BE NO EGG!
UNLESS THERE WAS A DUCK ...
ARE YOU PULLIN' MY LEG?

PERHAPS THE QUESTION -
SHOULD BE BEGGED ...
WITHOUT A ROOSTER -
NO FERTILIZATION OF AN EGG -
THUS - NO CHICKEN COULD HATCH -
SO - I VOTE FOR THE ROOSTER ...
TO WIN THE MATCH !!!

Oh, but Patrick, what about your poetry, your writing!!!
I see yourself in every line that entertains, inspires, and perpetuates the YOU that we are so lucky to have in our midst.

Okay, I'll forget you, then. But what will we do with all these insightful poems that will hang around cyberspace for damn near eternity! Unfortunately, when you started writing poetry and posting it, you entered immortality. Sorry.

Me? I'd rather be a chicken and cross the road.

a sad loss indeed...for the world that is....a world in serious need of genes such as yours.

well this could lead to all sorts of scary bloviation on topics of the state of what sort of genes ARE being passed on....and in profusion.

i really hate to start out this glorious monday morning with such depressive thoughts....hey! who started this...the chicken or the omlet...hmmmm

What a depressive story, my friend. Must be all of today's heat that got to you... Actually, it was so hot today you should have been a fried egg.
