FAREWELL

A party can be many things, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes both at the same time.


Poem Artwork

After the parties over

now your all alone

you rewind the happy moments

smile at all the fun.

Place everything

where it should be

find someones

gold Parker pen,

try to recall

who used such

cannot think of anyone.

It's 2am

your feeling tired

you've yawned more than once

now its running wild,

time to rest

though your still smiling

will be on your mind

for a long long time.

There will be others

thats for sure

just this one was special

maybe your not

comming back anymore,

it was a farewell

to all your friends

your moving home

like final chapter

the end,

though not so sober

in it's tone

more like too many miles

to do it again.

So there it is

that was it

a symbolic wave of your hand

turn out the light.

I love the way you expressed the good times the party offered and the tinge of regret for leaving. It also reminded me of the many times, after everyone left, of the many parties that I threw just to break the tension of hard-working faculty and staff was up against for one night before diving back into the work.

I didn't see my farewell parties as being sad in those days, I was always excited about moving on.

There is implicit sadness in "farewell" that you capture nicely in this poem. John
