Some say she was a woodland sprite,
But others say a fairy queen.
She lived within the dancing light
Of forest depths—her life unseen.
Alaia was the fairy’s name—
Her kindness kin to motherhood.
She lived for love and gave the same,
The trials of which her heart withstood.
The good she did was there for those
Who peered through morning’s sleepy haze
To find the things they knew she chose
To leave for them on needful days.
Like precious truth in clarity
Of rolling waters mirthful sound.
A gift to folks of piety—
That brook that broke from higher ground.
That water bright with fairy dust—
It might have flowed there yet today,
Except for sin and fading trust
That set the price they had to pay.
The hate, her soul could not abide;
The water turned from bright to black.
For on the day of sin, she died,
And never will they have her back.
Alaia was the inspiration for my short story by the same name. Read it in my book, The Ghost of Patricia Lynn.

A lovely write! I enjoyed the twist of how the wood spirit was lost! There is so much depth in the story behind the verse. Loved the fact that you used this to write a short story. I do the same thing, use my poetry as the basis for short stories! Always wondered if other poets did the same thing!
