The grace-faith connection is like a
marriage in which grace is the head
of the house, so to speak. There
may be times when the partners do
not act harmoniously but act
independently of each other.
The purpose of this discourse is to show that sometimes
grace manifests itself without the faith of its recipient or
anyone else and sometmes grace manifests itself in response
to faith. Sometimes faith delivers without being accompanied
by grace.
What is grace? Grace is a virtue from God that manifests
itself in bestowing honor and favor. It is unmerited love
rendered as a gift of God who need not do so.
What is faith? Faith is trust in someone or something.
Ultimately, faith is trust in and surrender to God. It
transcends believing, heredity and the environment.
The Apostle Paul, speaking of the grace-faith
connection with regard to salvation, states: "For
by grace you have been saved, through faith--
and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."
Ephesians 2:8
Insights about grace and faith
1. Grace sometimes favors a person without being
involved.
2. Grace sometimes favors a person in response
to faith.
3. Faith sometimes produces result without the
aid of grace.
4. Discernment results from grace and faith being
in harmony.
Because humans are meant to reach their full
potential it is important to stay in faith. Grace
is sufficient as the provider but faith is
neccesary to access some of the fruit grace
serendipituosly makes available. So apply
faith, even though sometimes grace will
not grant honor or favor. Be aware that
God has gifted you with both grace and
faith. Without them man is a maniac.
