THE WILL OF GOD

by Brenner Whitt on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 8:45pm

Decisions decided by Him that presideth --

No, wrong word.

Decisions decided by Him.

Much better.

Unbroken laws enacted and exacted

Upon the lesser by design but not by nature.

I don't know except that I'm told,

But not because I never knew.

More like a reminder of what I was

Before I came to be,

Before I came to see

Before I came to me.

Written in my heart,

DNA patterns in my spirit

Insist that I forsake me for we

To see that we be more than me.

Forced but not without choice

Into the mold to hold me still

In the cold chill, the hot blast,

Until I'm cast like pure intention's

Bold invention mentioned in my ear.

No fear to rob me of tomorrow's destiny.

The best in me unfolds.

Questions free me from choke holds around

My neck like unlocked shackles' heavy weight

Falling down and denting the dirt.

Scars revealed from pain I feel

From which I'll heal over time.

Lighter because I'm back to me,

Back to free without subtilty.

Only one of me can be so I see

I must be cause we can't be

If we can't see how

The here and now fit with past and future.

Locked in place legos erected

Farther than Babel.

Escape from the hell

Of knowing too well and being

So smart that we rebel

Against the well leading to the source

Till we die of thirst on our own course.

Cause we cannot escape.

Try we might to fill our ears

With self-deception's voice so clear.

Easier than listening to the whisper

From the giver of purpose at inception,

Through the death to the resurrection.

Cycles repeated but not deleted

Until conceited thought is gone,

Until we move away from wrong

Decisions we decided.

So misguided.

Still we hide it from ourselves

While everyone can see

Stormy billows on the sea

With open mouths waiting to swallow

Every Jonah overboard.

Now prostrate in stomach acids

Burning the flesh off of our knees,

How long will it take to humble?

How far do we have to tumble?

How long will arrogance mumble

Against the will of  God?

The choice is ours to make

As to when that belly shakes

And rumbles till we bubble out

Onto the shore.

Yes, the shore where we started.
