An eulogy of Mzee (Elder) Kirimi M'Marete M'Muthamia Mpuria, the author's father, upon his demise on July 5, 2005.

Na Mwiti-o-M'Marete, Malenga wa Mlima Meru

Mwisho wa mti ni tunda,  uzaapo likalika

Hesabu ni hadi kenda,  ndiposa hukamilika

Nayo maisha ni kwenda, Akhera kwenye baraka

Buriani wetu Baba,  wendako wende kwa kheri.

Yako imekamilika,  kazi isiyo kifani

Jinsi ’livyokuchosha,  unabarizi mbinguni

Mpendwa tumekupisha,  Mola akupe amani

Buriani wetu Baba,  wendako wende kwa kheri.

Twajua ulipo Baba,  katua ukatuama

Huna kilichokukaba,  walala u wakoroma

Tena huna ’lichobeba,  mizigo kaacha nyuma

Buriani wetu Baba, wendako wende kwa kheri.

Baba ulituusia,  mja ni haki na kazi

Nasi twakuahidia,  kamwe hatutoajizi

Nyayo zako ’tafwatia,  wasia wako azizi

Buriani wetu Baba, wendako wende kwa kheri.

Baba pole kwa safari,  ’mefika katangulia

Tutetee kwa Kahari,  pema akatutengea

Ndipo yetu ’tapojiri,  ndiwe tatuonya njia

Buriani wetu Baba, wendako wende kwa kheri.

Ila adui twahofu,  yule mui mwenye inda

Pamwe na njaa sumbufu,  na ndwezi zenye kukinda

Nani atayetukifu,  haupo ukatulinda?

Buriani wetu Baba, wendako wende kwa kheri.

Jinalo halitozama,  talilinda kwa vizazi

’Takuwa mfano mwema,  ’tazidisha yako kazi

Hadi Siku ya Kiama,  tutapokutana tena

Buriani wetu Baba, wendako wende kwa kheri.

*Shairi hili lilitungwa na familia ya Marehemu Mzee M’Marete M’Muthamia aliyetupa mkono wa heri tarehe 5 Julai 2005, na kukaririwa kwenye sherehe ya kumsindikiza mnamo tarehe 15 Julai 2005, Marurui, Meru. Mwenyezi Mungu ailaze roho yake pahali pema peponi.
