Stanley was sitting all alone,
Perched upon a kitchen stool
Dreaming of those days long gone
‘Twas then he’d been real cool
Somehow he missed, those heady days,
The wine the women and song.
His Wife Maria had changed his ways,
Now everything seemed all wrong.
He wanted a night, out with the boys,
With Maria he’d plead and plead
She wouldn’t allow him to have his joys
To his begging, she paid no heed.
So Stanley had hatched a neat little plot
Along with his old friend Mick
Heads together, they thought a lot
Then a plan that his wife couldn’t pick.
Three p.m., right on time, Maria answered the phone’
“Oh no!” She said, “that’s such a shame”,
“ Poor man, I’ll certainly let Stanley know”.
She put down the phone, and called Stanley's name.
She sat him down, as she told him the news
About Michaels stroke of bad luck.
His house had burned down, all he did lose
Even barbequed Michael’s Pet duck.
She insisted that Stanley go help him no less
To help his friend Mick, get over the blues
Then go to the house, help clean up the mess,
Take him some clothes, and some shoes.
He quickly obeyed, “My God it had worked
She fell for our sweet little plan”
His part of the plot, Mick hadn’t shirked.
Was pleased with himself, our Stan.
He wasn’t the smartest brick in the pile
When in trouble could show a quick leg
He could lie to your face, never losing his smile.
His intelligence? Like an unfertilised egg.
He went out with Mick, a night on the town.
Carousing and boozing, just like the old time
Ignoring the fact of, how old they’d grown
Of guilt he had none, our Stan felt sublime.
They went to a place, on the far edge of town
A house that was known with ill fame.
They went in the door, sat on the lounge
Parading before them the young ladies came.
Stan turned to Mick. He pointed to one
He was feeling right under the weather
His head it did spin, this was no fun
He decided discretion was better.
Stanley woke up on a cold cement floor,
He slowly adjusted his eyes.
His throbbing forehead made it a chore.
His mouth felt like, he’d eaten dead flies.
He looked through the bars, his heart missed a beat
As the coppers came over to open the door
Across the room on a long wooden seat
Sat Maria and his flaming in-laws.
When Stanley got home, he was in it real deep,
As he futilely tried to explain.
It’s now on the couch, that Stanley does sleep.
And daily Maria causes maximum Pain.
Mick got off light, because he missed the raid
Maria knows nought of his part in the perk.
With a wink and a nod, Stan’s fines he had paid,
And Stirs him each day at work.
