O Come all Ye Faithful

Too Late
***************************************

“O’ Come all Ye Faithful.” He heard the Choir sing,
As he huddled, ‘neath his blanket in the snow.
Deep within his memory, a mental chord did ring.
As he thought of how he’d sunk so low.

Through the swirling snowflakes, he saw them passing by
The sounds of merry laughter reached his ears
He could not make them hear, his soft and plaintiff cries.
Even though they passed him very near.

The merry sounds soon faded, into the freezing night.
And silence, descended once again.
His feet and hands were numbing, from the frosty bite.
But through it all he still could feel the pain.

He thought of all the Christmases, that in the past he’d known,
Surrounded by his family and friends.
The laughter of his children, the screams on Christmas morn,
As they opened up their presents, he’d wish the day would never end.

He pulled his blanket closer, in his fight against the cold.
He slowly closed his tired weary eyes.
He lost his will as sleep took hold,
Between his lips, his tortured soul did fly.

As he drifted off to his final rest, he heard the church bells ring
He felt a hand then touch his face, a touch that once he knew
He felt the love that touch did bring.
A tear filled voice then called his name. “Oh Daddy, is that you”.

I'm waiting for the chills on my neck to subside... I am powerless to stop my mind from thinking this could be me, or any Man, Robin. It strangles, yanks and rips at my heart...I want to lift this man up and hug away his fear. I would want that, were I him.
