Round and round this uphill climb,
each step seems like the first.
Rungs which should be going up,
are working in reverse.

What's been left behind,
now passing by my side,
this caravan of that which was
surely self-denied.

I will not transfer judgement,
while those with nerve to seek ;
Have reached their peak performance,
as mine was very bleek.

Perhaps if I should worry less
and hold a steady pace,
the best of all life has to bring,
won't leave without a trace.

You are master at turning such wisdom into well-turned phrases which have subtle, gentle and yet always profound impact, Paul. You maintain what it means to be a poet, I think... in terms of classical form, novelty of thought and innovation of expression, which makes for the perfect thing! Very well done - TY Kate xx
