Commander Cube

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Cube sat happily in the space it had been placed.
Cube lived in harmony with other cubes. God
saw stasis, and issued a command.
“Climb off the ground and grow mighty.”

Cube observed its fellows creating a stack,
furthered the cause by using its cube form
for temporary stability, all the while striving
to reach the heights. After all,
where was might located, but at the top
of the heap?

Cube saw exuberant mutations attempting
to evolve better means to achieve mightiness.
Circles, squares and rectangles practiced climbing,
created appendages, crafted voices. Several forms
combined and started their own stacks. Soon,
it became a race to be mighty.

Cube watched shapes become rigid, unforgiving
of other forms’ weaknesses. Stacks toppled and rose.
Cube became concerned. How could one tiny cube
become a mighty stack? Studying the problem
became a mission, thinking with gut brought intuition,
mind – merely a tool.

Cube chose an unwanted patch of earth to start its stack.
Cube hung banners that said “Welcome” and “Love Builds”,
and worked hard to clear away useless debris
at the foundation of the stack. Soon, other forms joined in,
respect was shared. Many shapes on high stacks laughed
to see a spreading stack expanding below. How could
you be mighty if you stayed low?

Cube ignored the ridicule of the ignorant, chose to
concentrate on Justice’s sights. Cube showed might
is in the soul, in the spirit of harmony, in the touch
of a hand. Cube continues to gather shapes and forms
who think alike. And, God smiles.

Very nice. It's always amazing to see just how badly one pushy cube can overtake a pile.

This poem delivers a message that will nourish the wise mind and feed the soul of those that read to digest. It is a composition to be read by humankind and to be recited to Minerva and Phoebus.

A Scroll of wisdom, "Commander Cube" is a masterpiece.
