Ofelia: Wild Horse Princess

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Thursday, January 20, 2005

Morn new-born, and thunder rang
From horses’ hooves, who came to claim
The right to adore a princess lored;
The Lady had advanced.

Two pair of eyes, human-formed, homage
Paid, and thoughts rapported; circle danced
And forelegs flared – upon still air;
The Lady had advanced.

As once she’d creed, the band be freed,
They paid fealty to mistress-mother,
Great grandson’s eyes … accepted skies;
The Lady had advanced.

Morn old-born, your voice still rings,
From horses hooves, and timeless wings,
You smile with grace, and reached embrace,
The Lady has advanced.

I love the form you have used here. Very nicely done.

The symbolism within and in circle makes the "I" scan the passage between the worn-flesh and thunder's noise of horses' farewell to their only ever Princess.

"Ofelia: Wild Horse Princess" is a poetic grand with message and mystery.

Thank You, Poet!

Well, I never . . . This is so outstanding that I'm really at a loss for proper words to explain how it affected me. Thank you for digging deep and writing this wonderful poem of horse opera sans music.

Love the way you dance with different styles of language. Apparently poetry is your very steed and here you ride it very well:-)
