Interstate Travel: Modern Rest Area

Fitful cloud snippets of dawn-pink horizon
softens the dark-dawn of cross-country traveling.
Cramped legs and twisted shoulders welcome
the chance to get out of the vehicle’s containment
and regroup.
Interstate noises speed up in Iowa’s sun-orange
morning as semis stretch their lengths of tires
and cargo.
Fresh-risen geese gaggle themselves aloft with
winsome silhouettes of necks and wings and vees
of breakfast-fired purpose.
Arms swing and bodies limber in relief while
shuffling to restrooms and machines which offer
coffee and snacks for coins.
Bird-twitters and insect-chitters joyfully announce
the acceleration of the Earth’s awakening song – and,
life goes on.
