Go to sleep,
Go to sleep,
Go to sleep my sweet baby,
You once held
Eternity.

Go to weep,
Go to weep,
Go to weep my sweet baby,
Nothing’s wrong,
Fraternally.

Go too deep,
Go too deep,
Go to reap my sweet baby,
Paucitied
Modernitity.

Go to sleep,
Go to sleep,
Go to sleep my sweet baby,
Go to sleep
With guarantees…

Of nothing.

your poem brings up for me the eternal struggle between what we somehow know and what we may depend on receiving from the external world .. provocative write .. gordon

poweerful message, Erin ... i learned this early in life ... there are no guarentees only the will to endure the unexpected ...

A repetitive cadence worthy of singing, Erin. With the knowledge at the end that we should all learn sooner or later - there are no guarantees. Well done.

Peace.

There is only one guarantee in life: THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. :) Or at least that's what my life has recorded so far.

All my life I have been a person who does most of her thinking/planning in bed of a night before I drift off to slumber. Its always been a time of reflection for me in many ways. Relationships, goals, 'need to do's' and 'ah forget it.' <g>
I really enjoyed this poem even though my comments aren't nearly as nice and intellicutal as the professional reviewers that have already acredited you properly. I just wanted to thank you for sharing these words with us all.

Enjoyed this stark yet briliant write of both ideological and emotional substance. As with the poet's pen, the reader's heart swings back and forth between faith, pain, and doubt upon reading GUARANTEES.

Sis Erin: Would love to know the inspiration behind this. I got the feeling that someone lost a child via stillbirth, abortion, developmental stagnation by physical/mental abuse or neglect. . . I'm thinking that the last line holds many secrets that I'm sure many of us would love to know more about in some type of poetic sequel. One thing for sure. . . sleep is a temporary state. . . the mind continues in states of it's own creativity.
