Particle Collider

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

‘I’ve got your ‘God particle’!’

Ha! Read this earlier, now went out front
‘cause I heard a cat fight. The winds had
Picked up, again, but from a SW path.
Particles filled the air, from the tailings piles,
I live in a mining community, grimly. They muted
HS football field lights, created ghosts of houses
Across the way, spattered particles of metals
Spent pride into ‘mine’ and the cats’ eyes.
Bespattered with grime, we are still living.

I think it’s great, we’ve so advanced, love
Science and cognizance and special intuition.
I think of the thoughts of parallel penchant. Love
The heat of further know edging! Love the beat
Of a job well done. What I can’t help think of is
Opposites. Emotions, feelings, things and screams,
There is no end to souls colliding…

I’ve come to think my particles are finally reforming,
Readjusting and, painfully, seaming into a whole-thing.
Like a stained glass window. After all, glass comes from
Sand, blasted by infernal heat, like lightning. I just have
The words, not the science of it all, to keep wishing for a
Big bang, over and over, now and again… what the hell.

The storm’s getting closer, wind a bit softened; particles
Wafted up are in for a beating, by false rain. At the back-screen
Door, I just tried sweeping my fingers across a moth’s feet, wishing
I could feel them, but, no, I’m too big, too complicated, too
fingerprinted. Not a particle, anymore. Maybe we should go forward
Backwards, by resembling/reassembling ourselves.

Well, we didn't all get sucked into a black hole, yet after the coliders use...some in the scientific world thought that might happen, or maybe we are in a black hole and don't know it...? Ed

Such imagery sets the scene; conflicting feelings bouncing off one particle to another, until nuclear fission (thoughts) form in engaging lines: love this one, Erin, especially,

" ...I've come to think my particles are finally reforming,
Readjusting and, painfully, seaming into a whole-thing.
Like a stained-glass window. After all, glass comes from
Sand, blasted by infernal heat, like lightning. ...."

WOW. Tempered, yet fragile, transparent ... well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Mining community. Yep, particles colliding all over the place. The nerds in Berne spent billions to build a particle collider and you have it all for free. Neat one Erin :-)

Ya know, there was this idiot with a sign, screaming about the Berne folks making a black hole and the earth was sure gonna be gobbled up along with any stray galaxies in the vicinity. He was scaring peeps to death, or he wanted to. And I thought to myself - if I woke up tomorrow morning and I wasn't here, I probably wouldn't even have a thought or a comment about that. Shoot, anyone who wants particles colliding can go to any beach during a windstorm ... or a mining town.

Write on :-)

Ted
