Time, Again!

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

That’s strange! I meant
To write of the Fourth
Final Destination,
But I can’t.

It’s the way I see,
All the time.

I‘ve been ‘lucky’
Through the years,
I’m fifty, now. Yet,

I worked to get here!
I practiced safety,
Of my own life, to
Keep me alive.

What went wrong?
When I wittled, whisted,
Wandered here,
And there?

Time, I think, again.

I have to snigger at young whipper-snappers such as yourself as you wax so eloquently about old age. (((snorting))) I turned seventy last April and can look back on my life when I was in the fifties much like one looks back on their school days. I am happier now than I have ever been. Yes, I am much nearer to last breath, and yes, I have much garbage to contend with in my former life, but I maintain I am happier now that ever before and just because I have lived long enough to understand what forgiving yourself for past acts really means. Good to read you again.

Time is the great equalizer for no matter how much or how little we amass in worldly goods...time still sooner or later gets us all.
