Cats in My Belfry

It is really getting to me,
cats are in my belfry,
they rattle the roof with
thunderous paws, I laugh,
then go outside
to chase them off, but,
they’ve disappeared
down the Saguaro trunk
in the front, to turn up
under foliage, looking calm,
one in the Iris’s, two
under thorns, the baby’s tail
diving into
the open screen door.
“Fine,” I huff, as I stride inside,
get to the kitchen,
and see all these eyes!
Kitten underfoot
and two on the sill, one
peeking ‘round the corner,
all want food first! “Out,”
I shout, “it’s not suppertime yet!”,
tails go a’ flying, the
spit-spatting begins.
They each head their ways
and I relax for a bit,
then head out the door
to get my flowers wet.
Relishing the
soothing release of waters
clean sense, I hear a rustle,
and look up,
incredulous! There’s
a cat right above,
reclined on the roof,
two in the tree,
proud and aloof,
I spin and I flee,
in a ridiculous manner,
tripping over that darn baby
on my way through the clutter!
I glance back to see,
they’re all heading for me,
I’ve had enough,
though it’s early afternoon,
I’m giving them brunch!
