Is there a need?

When a child screams, in silence?
Do we turn our backs, on innocence?

When a woman is beaten bloody?
Do we sluff it off, in uncaring rectitude?

When a drug addict overdoses?
Do we say, who cares, at our convenience?

Is it too much to ask, to see, to respond
to the epitome, of negligence?

Is there a need?

When a minority seeks equality?
Do we procreate, more furiously?

When a shriveled voice weakly pleads?
Do we unhear the extreme need?

When a nation fears its Head of State?
Do we demean, the religion it seeks?

Is it too much to ask, to see, to voice
continuances for eternity?

Is there a need?

When a newborn chick falls from its nest?
Do we step on its fragility, and end its Life?

When we can see, and live, freedom bought for the We?
Do we not comprehend the extent of morality?

When we shrug off human responsibility?
Do we not commit an unnamed crime?

Is it too much to ask, for us to see,
that Life is unfairly judged to be, even…
