The Brothers, Grimmed: or Self of I

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Sunday, August 24, 2003

I read the Brothers Grimm again

with older eyes aware of sin.

I saw their Time through

frightened eyes

as warnings maddening

self of I.

I read the scares of Stephen King

and through the years they still did ring.

I sensed their Terror through

panicked eyes

as rantings maddening

self of I.

I read the poems of normal folk

and lived their lives of years invoked.

I felt their Tenants through

widened eyes

as reality maddening

self of I.

Hi Erin Moen: I just read you reply. I was struck by your words of places you can t think about too much.
I walked the street in the free night air for wyears and began to try to deduce whatmy heartaches troubles dwelling, life ruts and worries were and decided that the entire climate of my lifes experiences was under my controll in terms of what i my self reflected on-especially at bedtime-my mood and thinking on falling asleep and what i dreamt. If I didnt dwell on the negative or just thought lightly I could change my mood amd attitude at daytime. Things change slowly this way=as slowly as it takes to do this damage to yourself.
To many peopel science means exact sanity-the exact logical-science is still an activity of people. Everyone already knew children ghad sexual feeling before Freud=That the world was round when they saw a ships mast sink in the sea. They just didnt make a science of it because they had no practical purpose in doing so= a drowning persons gains nothing from a description of the sea above. A society on a pass noy\thoing from a mathematical description of the pass yet peopel seem to respect science almost above them selves. It is the transient things in life -the fleeting ness of our existances-is the same as as the importance of the fleeting ness of the fleeting-transient moments of our lives which cant be scientifically studied and which lead ad in finitum back to adam and visa versa-the rest is just the construction and application of tools and structures which are secondary to the individual -the vast universe itself is nothing but transient fleeting individual moments-no bigger than the little individual himself=which is primary. Why get ulcers overthings, fall into ruts -your just give yourself a bad time(a worse time than the problems you have to conquer). I really dont wish to dwell on things that open dangereous chords-the confusiong issue is that the words couls almost have come from myself -that we think alike genetically a little-aand alll I can say is somethinbg once said to me in a psychotherapy session"to take care of your thoughts" immediately thereafter which the doctor excused himself saying "you wait here and I'll go to the emergency room"

Erin.. you use repeating lines, themes about as effectively as I've ever seen.. you tie your thoughts together, yet the progression to the end is a build-up.. I love where you go.. and I love going along with my own familiarity.. This is cool. love, katy xox.

Amazing the revelation when reading to our own children the difference of what we understood it to mean as children. Fairy tales are as grimm as the brothers;-)
