I've changed the title, from 'killed' to 'murdered'. Killed can imply accidents, murder implies intent.

I’ve looked through History, pondered minds,
reviewed circumstance, reasons and madness sublimed,
tried to see some grand design, wondered
on hate and blight of soul. It’s scary,
especially in our present roles.
Atrocities recriminate, small acts insinuate
into our lives, we say the devil lies,
must we always subscribe our acts
to supernatural entities? Aren’t we
to blame?
I see tremendous energy spent, dreams
of hope oven-sent, enormity of
unlived lives, gone up in smoke,
the world would be different now,
we’ve lost so much. Doctors, dreamers,
cures and poems, children’s laughter,
ever-afters, too much pain to hold,
the dying never ends.
Families love, encircling earth, homes built
respecting space, the years of erstwhile angst
murdered a world, diverted pace of
progress, liquidated innocence
of a younger race, and stole
a distinctive destiny from our hands,
our hearts, our lands.
He’s not the only one to slaughter
our rising suns, the cycle circles
sentience, it seems a curse
lays on our earth, appropriating
sense of worth. I wonder if
we’ll survive ourselves.

For us who experienced the horrors and survived, life could never be the same again.
I salute you and thank you for taking up the torch for Humanity, the torch that our generation will not be able to carry very much longer.
Sincere regards,
Peter Oszmann
These verses:
must we always subscribe our acts
to supernatural entities? Aren’t we
to blame?
hit me right where it counts, in the solar plexus.
Nothing of course could be truer.
EVEN if we are made in God's image, we sully His pristine Window of the Soul every time we spit on it and on Him/Her.
Point final.
I love this.
ERIN, send me this, and I SHALL (future determinative) publish this in the Winter, 2004, issue of Poetry in Emotion, ahead of all your other poems you have sent me.
This is great poetry!
You are REALLY really really coming into your own now, kiddo!
