In response to Bill's post. Christmas was once symbolic, but these days, to many people it just means a few drinks and presents, and some time off work or school. To me, it just means me feeling false because I don't believe in God yet people insist on forcing festivities at me left right and centre. I can't help doubting the credibility of religion. What faith I have left is in myself- not God.
Charlotte, your words are very true and I often call this time Giftmas. Which only makes this time even more miserable for the lonely, the poor, the deeply sad.

Our world today has turned so ugly at Christmas time. Behind all of the lights and "cheer" and gifts galore, it's quite ugly if you look into it. I had no idea you were an Atheist (I hope you seriously looked into it. It is a belief system. I do wish you find yourself though ;) -- This was a good poem. It expressed much truth. Listen to Bill Murray, he's quite right (no forcefulness here! ;))

Charlotte, Christmas is symbolic of a birth that changed our world. Any thing different is a distortion. Jesus came and will come again. Bill Murray
There will be peace on earth when we have justice, equality and freedom. Santa Claus and Christmas trees for one day of the year cannot replace true love and compassion. And you can still have ideals. Very good.
