LAMENTO NO MORRO by Antonio Carlos Jobim, new words by Joel Sattler

New title: "The Wedding Day Song"

It's not possible
To go beyond
The joy we have today!

I'll tell everyone
To come along
And join our wedding day!

Today
We share life
With everyone,

And no tomorrow
Can shine as bright
As our personal sun!

It's not possible
To go beyond
The joy we have today!

We'll tell everyone
To come along
And join our wedding day!

Today
We share love
With everyone,

And no tomorrow
Can shine as bright
As our personal sun!

Original lyrics in Portuguese by Vinicius de Moraes

Não posso esquecer
O teu olhar
Longe dos olhos meus
Ai, o meu viver
É de esperar
Pra te dizer adeus

Mulher amada
Destino meu
É madrugada
Sereno dos meus olhos já correu

=====================

In the video of this song,  we begin in silence.
The scene is a wedding in a church.
The groom is white, the bride is black.
The minister is Milton Nascimento,
in long braids with beads, and in a shimmering blue gown.
The groom’s side of the church is all dressed in black.
The bride’s side in colors and florals.
They eye each other suspiciously.
Milton asks the bride and groom the usual “I do” questions
and pronounces them man and wife.
As they kiss, he intones, slowly, the chorus:
“Today we share life with everyone!”
The bride, still embracing the groom,
looks at the groom and sings, “And no tomorrow…”,
and the groom, looking deep in her eyes, sings back,
“Can shine as bright as our personal sun!”
They turn to the audience, hand-in-hand
and with arms open wide and sing, more uptempo:
“It’s not possible to go beyond the joy we have today!”
The bride sings,
“I’ll tell everyone to come along and join our wedding day!”
She runs down the aisle, the groom close behind,
and out into the street.
The wedding party follows, laughing,
intermingling as the two groups flow out the door.
As the song continues,
the music gets louder and louder and more full of percussion.
Everybody begins to sing along.
The crowd gathers in passersby as they skip down the street.
Both sides are hugging each other.
The bride, the groom and the wedding party
grab everyone they encounter and dance them into the street.
A taxi driver, at first irate, gives in
and is seen doing The Twist in downtown traffic.
Cops try to stop the crowd, but are swept up in the fun.
A playground full of children dances along.
The bride throws the bouquet in the air,
and then a thousand bouquets fall from the sky
and everyone in the riot manages to succeed in catching one,
which they wave at each other in delight.
At the end, the bride and groom
go dancing up a hill into the setting sun,
where they disappear, followed by the rest of the crowd.
The song fades…..
