ARRASTÃO by Edu Lobo e Vinícius de Moraes, new words by Joel Sattler

New title: “Song of the Revolutionary”

When they grind us under wheels

When they try to crush us under heels

I’ll throw a wrench in the works

I’ll give them a world of hurt

I’m free!

I’ll never stay down even when in defeat

I will rise up and thousands will take the streets

Governments fall and dictators at my feet

They’ll lose it all, but freedom is what I seek

But in the cold sunrise

Many may die

Though I might fall some will survive it

In the dark night of my soul

They will try to get into control

But, but inside I am strong

They’d like to think I am wrong

Not me!

I’ll never let them put me in slavery

I’m gonna fight till all in world are free

If I die on my feet twon’t be on my knees

No matter what,

I still have a right to be

Original lyrics in Portuguese by Vinicius de Moraes

Ê, tem jangada no mar

Ê, hoje tem arrastão

Ê, todo mundo pescar

Chega de sombra, João

Jovi

Olha o arrastão entrando no mar sem fim

Ê, meu irmão, me traz Iemanjá prá mim

Olha o arrastão entrando no mar sem fim

Ê, meu irmão, me traz Iemanjá prá mim

Minha Santa Bárbara

Me abençoai

Quero me casar com Janaína

Ê, puxa bem devagar

Ê, ê, ê, já vem vindo o arrastão

Ê, é a rainha do mar

Vem, vem na rede João

Prá mim

Valha-me meu Nosso Senhor do Bonfim

Nunca jamais se viu tanto peixe assim

Valha-me meu Nosso Senhor do Bonfim

Nunca jamais se viu tanto peixe assim
