QUEM ME VÊ SORRINDO by Cartola and Carlos Cachaça, new words by Joel Sattler

New title: “Happy’s Just a Disguise”

Say, you thought me smiling meant that I was okay

You ought to know happy’s just a disguise

That’s because the tears are locked away within

My heart and not inside my eyes

If perhaps you don’t believe my pain

Perhaps you don’t believe that, that I feel anything

But when I hit a low, no matter how I doubt

I go and try to sing my heart out

Say, you thought me smiling meant that I was okay

You ought to know, happy’s just a disguise

That’s because the tears are locked away within

My heart and not inside my eyes

And so I know mistakes we all have made

Some cry when they are glad, but my sad I hide

I made me a solemn vow, which you see before you now

To always keep the tears inside

Say, you thought me smiling meant that I was okay

You ought to know happy’s just a disguise

That’s because the tears are locked away within

My heart and not inside my eyes

Original lyrics in Portuguese:

Quem me vê sorrindo pensa que estou alegre

O meu sorriso é por consolação

Porque sei conter para ninguém ver

O pranto do meu coração

O que eu sofri por esse amor, talvez

Não compreendeste e se eu disser não crês

Depois de derramado, ainda soluçando

Tornei-me alegre, estou cantando

Quem me vê sorrindo pensa que estou alegre

O meu sorriso é por consolação

Porque sei conter para ninguém ver

O pranto do meu coração

Compreendi o erro de toda humanidade

Uns choram por prazer e outros com saudade

Jurei e a minha jura jamais eu quebrarei

Todo pranto esconderei

Quem me vê sorrindo pensa que estou alegre

O meu sorriso é por consolação

Porque sei conter para ninguém ver

O pranto do meu coração
