THE BALLAD OF BRAVEHEART WILLIAM WALLACE song lyrics
by Joel Sattler

O William Wallace was Scottish born
in Elderslie in the early morn
raised up righteous to be no slave
a soul for freedom and heart so brave

Blind Harry sang the song of the man
who came a hero throughout the land
who gave his courage and gave his life
because the Sheriff did kill his wife

he stormed the court of Sir Heselrig
and carved him up like a suckling pig
caught his men and he cut them down
captured Lanark and burned the town

O weep no more Scotland your sons are free
the English never will enslave thee
and if they come with their knives and swords
you'll fight for the Braveheart forevermore

with Andrew Moray, two thousand more
he met the English at River Forth
to fight for honor and heritage
they fought the English at Stirling Bridge

the English Army, ten thousand men
and half would never see sun again
Sir Hugh of Cressingham torn to shreds
to make a baldrick for Wallace sword

They made Sir William the Guardian
of all of Scotland and all it's ken
but just a year until Edward First
did do him battle at fair Falkirk

the English arrows they fell like hail
the Scots killed many but they did fail
they stood their ground there as best they could
then scattered into Callender Wood

for seven years Will was on the run
he could not fight or trust anyone
but in free Scotland he had belief
but was betrayed by the Earl of Monteith

they crowned him with a garland of oak
the king of outlaws that was their rote
they stripped him naked and dragged him through
the streets of London and tortured too

the English quartered him hung and drawn
but still the story of he lives on
the piked his head up on London Bridge
but still the legend of he shall live

the King still had a lesson to learn
the Scots did teach him at Bannockburn
the English lost to Robert the Bruce
and forced the villain to make a truce

O weep no more Scotland your sons are free
the English never will enslave thee
and if they come with their knives and swords
you'll fight for the Braveheart forevermore
