go up the Mississippi
until you reach the Red
up the Cross Bayou
but don't end up dead
beware the Twelvemile
the demon chile
looking out for gators
all the while
come round the bend
and before you knew
you come to the Black Bayou
six six point six
my-yuls long
it aint so deep
the water's strong
it reeks of life
it reeks of death
it's where you go
when you got nothing left
down in Louisiana
where the nights are hot
you're gonna give up
all you got
I went down
to the water black
thought I could get
my soul back
I asked the Devil
gimme a break
I guess that was
my first mistake
he took me down
and showed me around
he said how do you like it
I couldn't make a sound
when I woke up
I got out of there
and drove up north
till I could breathe fresh air
I swore I'd never
go back again
but I'm afeared
that when I reach the end
I'll find a hell
that once I knew
at the bottom of
the Black Bayou
