EVERY CRUCIFIXION NEEDS A WITNESS

every crucifixion
needs a witness
every persecution
a face in the mud
every institution
needs an edifice
every execution
wants for blood

the holy tree of liberty
must often be refreshed
with the life of martyrs
and the blood of patriots

history is a roulette wheel
and everybody bets
but when it comes around
is anybody's guess
it may not be your fault
you're not at your best
but when you pull the trigger
you fail the test

the years are rising up
it seems oh so slow
until you're going down
with no where else to go
you're never getting off
the rollercoaster ride
and for all your screaming
there is no place to hide

every revolution
needs to catch its breath
every constitution
has to pay a debt
every Shakespeare hero
needs a MacBeth
all roads lead to zero
all life leads to death

so when you reach the end
go out in style
saving all your friends
and laughing all the while
a pyrrhic victory
is the best that they can win
the wheel of history
takes another spin
