What if Van Gogh had painted not his Starry Night? Imagine a world with no color, music, or dance. No Hayden or Bach or Chopin. Imagine a world like that! A world without stage to mirror our lives, or one with no words to keep our masters alive; imagine … barren minds. A world of Shakespeare void, or writers from a not too distant past, who brighten still our lives like Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Durrell, and modern poets like Dylan Thomas and Lennon… Imagine… life without any of them? I tried to envision a world as such, but I cannot. A world of no writers, or poets! Bless them, bless them all!! They paint with brushes not, and symphonies they play without a note to enchant the masters of the art. They bring on the dancers, and the gypsies, in an endless parade of fantasies with nothing but pens and vividness of mind. I know you, writer, poet, artist; I know you all too well though you’d thought I’d never seen your face. For your words are food to me, my inspiration I passed on to him, who passed it on to her, who gave it to the world to have and forever treasure. I know you, writer, poet, artist, I know you well. So rest your weary soul, master of the pen, these strokes your words have painted, will live forever in my world and theirs, long after your breath is spent.
Yes, so true, Carmen, and you've put it excellently. I wonder do people think about this, some writers even, when they're jumping on the censorship bandwagon. Some would've censored Shakespeare, locked away VanGogh, burned Fitzgerald at the stake for his decadence. ;-)

this is really excellent! Shelly said that poets are "the invisible legislatures of the universe." without their creative zeal to inspire the minds and spirits of universal cilvilization, spiriutal and social evolution would be at a terrible loss ... again, a very powerful, insightful and extremely well penned poem!
