Long absence... hope to be present more often. Sometimes, life gets in the way.

Poem Artwork

aquellos que tocan, pero no sienten;
que oyen, pero no escuchan,
que hablan sin decir nada.
porque respiran el vacío
y suspiran sonidos huecos.
Aquellos… que pretendiendo ser poetas
recitan canciones burdas, sin ritmo ni rima,
y así nomás, un día mueren sin dejar huellas,
barridos por el viento como hojas muertas.

And Just Like That…
… dead leaves succumb to the wind’s
deliberate and forceful thrust and vanish,
without even pretending to mind.
And just like that…
one by one, the surf will draw
grains of sand into the ocean’s depth;
like easy prey they’ll follow and as they do,
wipe the footprints of those misguided souls
lost, and void of imagination and purpose.
Those who look, but do not see,
who touch, but cannot feel.
Those who hear, but do not listen;
talk… babble... hollow words.
Those who pretend to be poets
,
yet their song is crude, their verses wry,
elusive and dry of rhyme or form.
And just like that…
they’ll die leaving no trace of themselves;
easy… like dead leaves swept away by the wind.

...así nomás mis palabras serán barridas como hojas muertas dijo el moribundo poeta...
A beautiful poem that in spanish sounds more sincere because the ink which were used to write it was mixed with a tear or two.

Carmen, while I haven't read too many of your poems yet (randomly selecting), I must say that this is by far the best write of yours I have read so far (imho). I think you posted at the right place, too. There are so many here who actually think they are poets, when in reality, they're are nothing more than actors, giving it a nice try. You hit the nail on the head with this one, not to sound too cliche.

Best,

Jim

This is a beautiful write Carman
I loved it both in spanish and in english
Funny, I just wrote a spoof poem
about a very good friend of mine
"El Ratoncito" and I too was going to and will
present it in both languages,
though my spanish writing is not that great.
Please look out for it
on my next posting

Love & Peace

I am basically new to poetry, having been encouraged by folks on AD to convert my pastel and oil images into verse. Reading of the poets who pretend shook me a little but in a constructive way. Poetry has a fine legacy which has given pleasure to and inspired millions down through the centuries. As poets - in my case, an apprentice - we have a grave responsibility to preserve the integrity of poetry.

Of late, I've had hopes that I might see your words take form again. Something made me check this particular morning. It's lovely to be right, and the discovery, more pleasure than surprise. It's good to see you.

Well done, Carmen. Worthy message.
