My Sum: Sonnet (revised)
What sums my life? I ask, as twilight nears.
The yarns I’ve spun, the plots; sapphire nights
of jeweled splendor, lost in empty years,
as lazy dreams, like flotsam, slither by.
What sums my life? I ask with much disdain.
What shows, but nimble semblance of times past,
and unfilled days. What little have I gained?
Gossamer dreams, their tall dark shadows cast
on frail wishes made, through rings of smoke.
A whim, a lark, a star too far to catch;
sweet illusions poetic minds invoke,
castles fashioned blithe, built on moving sand.
What sums my life? I ask, as twilight dies.
As lazy dreams, like flotsam, slither by.

Still tinkering -- critique to your heart's content. Till get it right; nex year, perhaps. -- Carmen
"Disappear in ordered flights" or something like that? And this line: A whim, a lark, a
star too far to catch; How about "A whim, a lark, a star too far from land"? You can find
many others if you think a bit. Happy New Year. By the way, I like the sonnet and would
like to see it when you get it done.
Enjoyed this yet again!!

This is an exquisite piece of work, needing no more
adjustments, as far as I'm concerned.
