I thought that this would be a different sort of write, but the poem took over and wrote itself --
I HEARD THEM BEFORE I SAW THEM
their raucous off key calls melodious
above the cacophony of afternoon traffic
five canadas on the wing flying somewhere
Silhouetted against the clouds above “the plant”
calling out as they reclaimed the sky
their third home. Mighty wings beating
drumming out their late august chant,
we’re going away, we’re going away
they rise into the ev’ning sky
seeking today only an evenings rest
but soon they will rise up on
This is nostalgic for me, John. I was raised in northern Alberta and the geese signified the return of spring and they presaged the long winter ahead when their skeins passed high overhead in the fall. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and peace to you.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander....and you soar with this one dear!!

How do they know when, where to migrate. I'll miss them flying over my home, and plonking themselves in the little lake.
I hear and see them through the imagery of your write..
