I started this on New Year's Eve but it is still current as the Chinese Lunar New Year is this week, (Go Rats!)
On the night when the ghosts
of the previous 52 weeks mingle with the
shades of years past and the prevarications
of promise of the months to comes
I sit alone with an empty glass.
Strange how a few molecules of
carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen
smoothes the sharp edge of loss, and
jumble of all that of might have been.
I resolve in the ethanol clarity of
New years Eve no to resolve, not
to setup false quests for the perfect me,
trying to improve my self like some
long marketed laundry soap:

Another glass of the old Scot,
reminds me that to resolve not to
resolve is a resolution already
broken: a futile gesture; one among many.
In another flash of ethanol induced clarity
I reflect how strange a few molecules
of hydrogen, oxygen abd carbon
makes sense, for an hour or two,
of life’s inherent futility, smoothing
the sharp edges of loss, resolving the jumble of
what might have hydrogen, carbon and oxygen . . .
Christmas - only days away; plastic snowmen and glowing reindeer adorn the lawns of neighborhoods all across America. All is calm, all is bright, and yet there is something tragically wrong about this Christmas night.
