You've got more posts than I'll ever have time to read, so I'll start here and arbitrarily read my way up.

Verily I say unto thee, though Poets, Prophets, and Messiahs are unknown in their own homes (so it's said) and find it hard to get money-paying understanding (so it's known), love and laughter keep life worth dying!

So true are your words and so right you are John, but I see there are those who disagree so to them I must say..."If a true poet cares not whether someone really understands then why do most poets nowadays seek to simplify their work?"

i agree with robert, as long as you know,that is all that counts.i think is a good take on what you feel,so therefore,i think(for what it is worth)that this is good!!

I write hoping that just one person
may actually understand what I'm
trying to say. If that happens then
it has been worth it to write it.
None of my family reads my writes..
because they don't understand that it's
my heart and my soul. They consider it
a hobby or something to that effect. But
you know what? I've found friends here
who WILL read and WILL comment. Keep
writing hon. We will keep reviewing .

I am like Erin, I cant comment unless I understand what I have read.
But then my hubby says I am a great lover........wink wink.

I always try to understand what I am reading, if I cannot, I don't feel I can review the piece. I've also noticed, at times, I don't feel like reading a certain genre of poetry, ie, for me, sexual, new love, lost love...they are just not where I am, you know? I've had my husband read some of my stuff, with trepidation, I feel this reaction you wrote so well of more often than not in his mien, funny, isn't it?

i agree, there is nothing worse than having someone that loves you say 'very nice' when you know they haven't the least understanding of what you are doing. its nice to be loved but even your best friend may not understand poetry
