Red stands his ground –
He will not turn back ...
He has smelled keewatin
He has tasted the north wind

The Grey is no less certain
It’s spruce and balsam
that she’s smelling
Tamarack and slough hay

A horse’ll do your bidding
Even let you ride’m to death:
Just horse’m around hard
with bit and with spur

But you can’t horse a mule
When he’s made up his mind
Bit and spur won’t sway ‘em
No matter what ever you do.

So I curse and I fume and
I mutter, but northward I Ride –
Yes I curse and fume an mutter
Knowing the beasts are right . . .

I use to ride one in a full gallop,
then she would suddenly stop
throwing her head to the grown
sending me to the stars....
I think she was a she, but I finally
stopped riding her.

john,
I grew up having bays and throughbreds.
One he was mean always took me in a head log gallop and hit the fence then tossed me over it he would just stand there and look at me of
course I was fuming and told him if he moved he was going to make good glue lol
This was an excellent write.
thanks for the memorie

And he just did by posting this beauty..
Thanks to You
