^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Grandpa̓s grandpa had
Cleared the farm. 4
Chased off the wolves.
Started the rock fences.
Raised a barn and a shed.
Gouged and scraped
A living from around
The boulder̓s and the stumps.

It’s good soil” Grandpa used to say
“In-between the rocks”
He knew It well.
Plowing it behind a team Nearly sixty years.
“This place’s too small for a tractor”
He say to the salesman each year.
In his seventy—fifth year he broke down and bought one
And died under its wheels within a month...

My first recollection of Father
Him on the Tractor,
The tractor chained
To the earth...
Funny how a child sees things:
Dad was plowing, but he looked
(I was five, remember) he looked liked
He was chained to the land.

Dear John - so glad you stated this was fictional! But glad to see that "grandpa" still cherished the earth beneath his feet, and between the rocks!

The eyes of innocence sees more depth than the eyes of age. Unfortunately as we mature we lose the awe of the child in us. Thank you for a great read this afternoon.
Love,peace and harmony,
