tomorrow, 13 april is Palm Sunday, the day of Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

The poem is part of my "Passiontide" Collection.

Poem Artwork

They would have fought for Him
That day.
The riddle speaker who rode
in on a donkey,
Leading an army of
followers armed with palm leaves
They would have fought
for him and
For freedom and the homeland.

That day they might have prevailed
slaughtering the cohort,
murdering a few thousand collaborators,
burning the
governor’s enclave.
Blood for blood extracting
Power seizing power wielding
Power worshipping. Power
Losing as the real Power
in the Land moved

Crushing the Revolt, destroying
The little Army armed with palms,
Slaughtering, murdering a
few thousand who might have been involved
blood for blood extracting, ten fold,
ten times ten fold:
Power wielded, power worshipped
exacting its price

But the man on the donkey
forbore power and
foreswore bloodshed.
Therefore the mob soon turned on him,
crying instead for his blood
and the little army armed with palms
would disperse like the morning dew
in the desert....

Excellent poem. How little did they learn. It's still true today. The "followers" of Jesus crying out for bloodshed.

Wow, John, I like this, powerful piece! It brings back strong memories of Catholic school, the nuns, church everyday, stations of the cross, palms fronds, ashes...all past experiences that shaped the Now me. :)

... and what would happen now if a little army went to war for the sake of the christ? a time and place for everything i guess, and the time has passed for the christian soldier. a trivial comment ... for i know the battle field is of the heart. very nice poem!!

I have taken pride in writing this novel as so many people have the wrong impression on bikers because they dress in leather clothing which is to protect themselves in case of an accident. The majority of bikers are known Policemen, Firemen, Doctors,
