i 'found' this piece on an obscure journal.
the authors first name is Boogy

-- 30 ---

Poets
are a queer
lot: They sing, laugh,
or cry to no apparent stimulus,
exhibiting inappropriate
affect. They often
speak of hearing
voices,

the
voice of
a mysterious entity,
their “muse”, they call it. This
entity is said to “inspire” the poet to write.
Some even claim that their muse “gives”
them their writings. The content of
these writing are highly symbolic
suggestive of a sophisticated
delusional system.
Analysis

of
these
sophisticated
delusional systems
show a general belief in the existence
of things or persons beyond the individual;
a pathological belief in the power of
the individual to endure suffering
and effect change. Some even
profess a pathetic
belief in
god.

Further,
poets tend to
fantasize on the enduring
nature of love; the nature and role of
duty and honor. Poets are also outspoken critics
of both society and state. They demand
honesty and truth. Although they
do not always agree on the truth
their frequent disagreements
spurs the search
for the
“truth”.

Such
antisocial behavior
and ideas are dangerous–should
they become endemic in the general
population our ability to control events would
be severely hampered requiring a return to more heavy
handed and less effective interventions. Such
measures are given to backfire and have in the
past caused us both embarrassment
and lost time
I

find
poets capacity
to feel the full range of
human emotions, from the pinnacle
of exaltation to the very sea bottom of
despair and tribulation to be most
galling and a personal affront
to all we stand for. This
can not be allowed
to continue.
I

therefore
propose that poets
be systematically neutralized.
First, through a concerted program of
medication, using both prescription and
non prescription drugs -- alcohol seems to be
the drug of choice but, use what works. A
Public education campaign aimed
at the deleterious effects
of poetry

also
suggests itself.
With luck and perseverance
we can wipe out this dangerous
and irrational scourge in our life time

John, Even though I don't agree with many of his points, at least it's well written.
