Apprehension

With Her hand on my shoulder
She urges me to only look ahead
Not behind
I am so uncertain
So afraid of the pace
Uncertain of what I’ll find.

So here we go,
She and I
Faster and faster
The roller coaster goes

I feel Her strength
Despite my fear
Cradled I would like to be...
Alone on this path

Take from me my apprehension
I beg
She listens
Smiles
And points forward

But the trees are so tall
And the valleys so deep
Change is a constant

No room for the weary
Or the soulless
I mutter

Run with me
I beg
I can’t keep up
I plead

She listens
Smiles
And points ahead

To somewhere that does not exist
In this lifetime

How will I know what to do?
I scream
She smiles

She cradles my face
In Her hands

Stares into my eyes
Round with fear

She moves closer
Till I see the reflection
My face
In Her’s

She opens Her mouth to speak
Only my voice is heard

“No room for the weary
Or the soulless.”
