A night in the Ozarks atop Lightning Mountain.

Into the abyss of midnight the howls intensify
The wild night is calling as dozens of coyotes cry
The family of a tribal Prince who glorifies this mountain
His thirst for penetrating wisdom drinks from midnight's fountain
He sniffs the air for strangers as his den surrounds his play
He is worshipped for his wisdom and respected for his ways
He knows to win in battle he must take the lead
Enforce the tribal policy or they will not succeed
He knows that their survival hinges on his oaths
He focuses on the victory not of his victims boasts
Into the next generation his sons will live to lead
Then theirs will follow later to keep the family free
Such is the life of a Prince the creature of these woods
Not much different from the man who seems misunderstood
Leaders come in two legs or four depending how
They take their oath to howl or pledge a whispered vow
The head of creatures ...animal and those of all free man
Can fight for freedom in the woods or for all the promised lands
Tonight as I lay in my bed and look out into night
I'll understand the Prince who howls and the Valored one who fights.

The Coyote was introduced to the Ozarks and have made quite a home here. There are many packs eveident by their kills and the researchers that follow them. The coyote is a master at strategy and perhaps, you need to read a little more about their dedictaion to their family and territory. They are misunderstood primarily by people who know very little and surmise more.
Check out National Geographics site on the internet and look up the coyote. Thanks for your review and for deliberately attempting to bring my poem down. I am a dedicated nature lover and I know from what I see and read. --susan

is the trickster, the jester
in mexico, a *coyote*, is a fixer, the man through whom you pay your bribe ---
One thing coyote is for sure -- enterprizing -- he is not native to the Ozarks -- but there he is!
Really You Can't Compare Humans With Animals, But, Then In Todays Greed Mongering World Who can Tell The Howling Difference!
If I Went To War I Would Not Take An Animal (Howling)With Me, I'd Go By Myself Knowing Even Tho I Did Not Win Or Lose, But I In Silence (Ninja/Sword) Sure as Hell (Would) Do Collect!
