There is no God I hear them cry.
You live but a little and then you die.
But then life is nothing but a fleeting phase
As you slip through the womb and into the grave.
'Tis but a brief flutter of a sleeping eye
Twixt the day you're born and the day you die.
Then why should I write and why should you read?
Why should you speak and why should I heed?
And if we are but brief embers in the night,
Pray what is the blaze that sets us alight?
From whence is this light that shines within
That I should know the right from the sin?
Is he who does right the fool or the wise?
If everything's truth then all of it's lies.
But Something there is that changes me,
To forget about I and consider thee.
Something in history that does not change,
Something that victories and defeats does arrange.
Something lost souls and lost causes can save.
Something that sees neither the womb nor the grave.
Something that gives hope in the midst of despair.
That never intrudes but is always there.
Something that loves me with a love undeniable.
Forever trustworthy, forever reliable.
There is no God I hear them cry.
You live but a little and then you die.
Yet I die but a little to forever live
By the grace of the One with the power to forgive.
