YOU SAY
get a job
get an education
fend for yourself
become a citizen
make a contribution to the world
I SAY
help me honestly
don’t con me
stab me in the back
manipulate me
help me responsibly
don’t beat me in the head
throw me in jail
patronize me
YOU SAY
there’s equal opportunity
you have a fair chance
you have advantage
you are free
yet there’s discrimination
yet I’m a woman
yet I’m black
yet I’m fatherless
NOW WHAT DO YOU SAY?
cause all I ever hear is
“Next! Sorry can’t help you”
