My Mirror Lies to Me

I have a brother who is 10 years older than me. Once in a while I used to see him looking back at me from my mirror. The other day, I saw my dad looking back at me. When did that happen? He passed away 36 years ago, but he was 34 when I was born, so I'm a couple years older than he was the last time I saw him.

MY MIRROR LIES TO ME

My mirror tells me stories,
but it’s not always truthful
My mirror says I’m aging,
but I’m still feeling youthful.

The person in my mirror
looking back at me
Isn’t the me that I’ve always known,
nor the one I care to see.

My mirror says I’ve grayed,
but I think it’s just confused.
There’s a product “Just for men,”
but it’s one I’ve never used.

My mirror says my hair has thinned,
but that thinking has me baffled.
Until I see it from behind,
then it gets me a little rattled.

My mirror is showing wrinkles
and a bit of a double chin,
my mirror says I will never
get my youth back again.

Mirrors should be color blind,
unable to distinguish thick or thin,
they shouldn’t be allowed to reflect baldness
and of course, never a double chin.

That person in my mirror
only slightly resembles me
I’m not that old and wrinkled
this simply cannot be.

My Mirror says I’m heavy,
but it’s yet to call me obese.
I’m a prisoner of this body,
I'm hoping these lies will cease.

The person in my mirror
isn’t the me that I would choose
I may be a little heavy,
but he’s got 50 lbs to lose.

Mirrors should be more complimentary
If they know what’s good for them,
lest they wind up broken
causing 7 years bad luck,,, again!

My mirror shows me the future,
or maybe it’s the past.
It’s showing me my father,
when I saw him last.

My mirror tells me stories,
I listen now and then,
it says my time is coming,
it just won’t tell me when.

Very honest. I, too, am struggling with the effects of aging, while my twin brother accelerates ahead of me in that category. When scanning old pictures I was astounded to see my resemblance to my father in several photos.

You've reached us all, including Cinderella's Stepmother, with this one.

Yep. Get used to it. I dug up some old photos last week of my maternal grandfather, who I swear I never had a resemblance to. Yeah right. He went bald, so far I have not. Since baldness is a maternal grandfather trait does it follow that my lineage is askew?? Patrick

We must summon up new images and put muzzles on these mirrors ~

Well said...I know I can surely relate to this one. My mirror started telling lies about 10 years ago. I see my mom and my aunts sometimes.

Oh I know this feeling and you have expressed it so well. I see some features of my mother now in my mirror.

I can identify with what you have shared via your verses here, Richard. A lot of times when I look into the mirror, I hardly recognize the person in there because that is not the way I see myself. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Regis

My mirror always seems to break,
Especially lately after eating cake,
My waist is apparently growing by leaps & bounds,
For me to see myself of late does of me astound...ed
