One of the worst things I ever did was drink alcohol. I quit and my whole life changed for the better. If you still drink, eat, drink and be merry, hope your life is cherry. Mine wasn't, all I did was stay in trouble with my driving and my meaness. Whatever happens to me, it won't be because I am a drunken old fool. For all you young folks out there, age is only a number. I have young friends who were smart and gave up the bottle also.
I learn new tricks, still life kicks. New tricks become only a trade, for the old ones made. There's hardly no gain, still plenty of pain.
Old dogs get out of the rain a different way, young one's continue to stray, spin their wheels and stay. Most of my problems are the same, minus alcohol from my game. Instead of being a drunk old fool, I'm sober in lifes hard knock school.
Instead of always drinking, I'm most of the time inking. Pouring out my soul, in words of story told. Three hours in the bar drinking, became three hours pen inking.
My car doesn't wobble anymore, I don't stumble in the door, then fall on the floor. No more driving while intoxicated, only necessarily medicated. I walk in the door sober hurting, while the devil and life do their flirting. Alcohol doesn't even come to mind, as life takes its toll and grind.
Instead of getting meaner in attitude, I built a nicer position of fortitude. I'm a positive mind junkie, instead of a negative chime monkey. My problems are still here, but I suffer less smear.
Yeah, the problems, never do disappear. But they are managable and maybe even enjoyable when sober. But, the best reward is knowing that I will never knowingly hurt any one again. Alcohol, for me ... sux
The last two lines do it for me, Grady, the problems are still with us for sure, but they seem less without the drink, thanks for the comments on my poem too...Peace, Ed & Rufuz
