Just Name Me Shame

When I was born
they named me
Ginger...
Like Ginger and spice
and everything nice...
Not a bad name..
But Ginger was a normal toddler
She never listened
she was filled with energy..
Sometimes she hid
so she could not be found..
Ginger's Mom got very angry..
Mom was filled with hells wrath..
So she constantly threatened
to drown the child her in the bath..
This scared the little girl..
Because she knew she already
held her under before....
She learned to hold her breath ..
until it burned her heart and chest..
When Ginger was in Elementary school..
She met a child named Eric..
A prankster who made her laugh..
Made her forget the threat of the bath..
So one day the Mom started to call her Erica..
Erica you rotten seed..
She was Erica whenever Mom as mad..
Erica Erica Erica..
Erica the bad..
I can see what your thinking Erica..
never try to hide..
I know exactly who you are..
So Ginger became Erica
in her on mind..
That was what they called her now..
most of the time.
Erica.. was a part of me..
so I learned to use the name
Learn to let it fit me..
as we are the same..
Then when I was seventeen...
I moved far away..
I started a new life..
I needed a new name..
Something.. wonderful..
Something strong..
A name people trust..
A name that says I belong..
Jennie.. Like the girl next door.
Now that has been my name
for the last ten years or more..
Sometimes I am not sure who is the "real" me..
Perhaps I am one or perhaps all three
Doesn't really matter I am ..
Who I am..
Ginger Erica Jennie
We are all the same..
We breath the same air..
We all laugh the same..
We share the same love
We share the same pain..
We share in all the blame..
Perhaps they should
have just named ... us all
Shame.........
After all it's just a name.

ERICA

Bill said it Erica. You are not to feel ashamed. You should feel proud of who you are, a stronger person. You're a good person Erica and this GREAT and BRILLIANT poem has revealed yourself like no other I've ever seen. If this is a true story, feel loved... not ashamed.

Happy Christmas!!

Gej,
This is a wonderful, revealing piece.
Our past experiences are but ingredients for our recipe...what we choose to bake is entirely up to us. I'm sure you'll end up with a wonderful dish.

No, no no no no no no no. Stop this Ginger
... not shame never shame on your part. No your are guiltless. You are good and sweet and kind. Let the shame fall where it belongs. Again, no no no no no no ... you are loving and kind. And I ache inside for you for looking at your self this way. No one reading this would call you shame. Shame is for people like myself who deliberately do bad and are punished for it.
Don't make me cry Ginger. Please don't make me cry. Bill Murray
