How did Gulu look like and how did he live before any European came to Africa.
Gulu was tall and lean
He was black. He was bony
Fat and fleshy, he was not
He had a body of fantastic build
Like Ebony he gilstened in the sun
Gulu's face flashed smiles
He never felt worried of his life
He coped hardships with courage
He enjoyed the challenge
He was a man of integrity
Gulu never begged
Never lived on donations
Never migrated abroad
Never betrayed his people
Never exploited their innocence
Gulu lived in stable environment
His eyes never toched a naked sky
His nose never smelt a polluted air
His seas never became so restless
His feet never walked on a barren land
Gulu milked bees with smoke
Harvested berries in the virginland
He captured whispers from waterfalls
He listened to the sound of silence
He communicated with coded messages
In day time Gulu toiled
At night he retreated to his den
He lit fires with orange tongues
He watched the moon and the stars
He made seasonal predictions
Gulu was a brave man
He killed harming beasts
He killed lions and leopards
From their skins he made outfits
He never looked chasing shasows
With ostrich feathers on his head
Gulu watched traditional dances
Half naked girls staged the show
They were beautified with beads
They winked eyes as they gyrated

Fantastic write.
You should continue on this thought - how he had to change once the white man came into his country and made him learn the things he thought were best and forced him believe in the things he believed in. And therewith destroyed his life.
I'm uplifted by the beauty of this poem
and the majesty too! I'm saddened by the fact
that it was disrupted, people should be allowed
to live their countries own culture without
outside interferrence!
I love this poem, its strength and dignity! Its author has great insight and respect for this Gulu type man, his lifestyle and his habitant. Great poem, Abdi-Noor!
