During the cold War Somalia received arms from the two super powers. Now that there is no central government to control the weapons, every family is armed to the teeth and we are using them to kill each other. It is worth mentioning that weapons have been pouring into our country over the past 15 years of no law and order in Somalia. an arms embargo was imposed on Somalia in January 1992 but warlords and unscrupulous businessmen were importing arms secretly into Somalia making unimaginable cash at the expense of the dying masses. Today the United Nations Security Council is meeting to discuss about lifting the embargo. I would suggest that the embargo shouldn't be lifted unless there is a way to control the use of the weapons.
once the embargo is lifted it is highly that troops from the neighboring countries will rush in to take positions within the country. A recently instituted Somali government have requested troops from African Union to intervene the country. what worries me is not the troops but the way to manage them.

They terribly suppressed peoples' voice

One had to be loyal to one partner
But there were very clever leaders
They traded between the two powers
They milked the golden opportunity

Somalia was among the clever ones
We gave out our seas to the Soviets
We received heavy weaponry in return
We brought Americans to replace soviets
And again we received military hardware

Time came to defeat one of the Elephants
Many dictators were given a harsh chase
Ours was dislodged with a popular uprising
We are now plunged into a sea of disorder
Arms embargo by the UN did work well.

We need law and order to be restored
But not without a balanced judgment
We need the risks thoroughly calculated
Once embargo is lifted will troops come in?
Whose is going to be in-charge of Somalia?
